Mix CMC with the glycerol using mild agitation; or, dry mix the
cellulose gum and sorbitol. Dissolve chlorobutanol in the water and add
this solution to the cellulose gum-glycerol or cellulose gumsorbitol
mixture. Shake vigorously for one minute, then shake occasionally until
a thick, clear gel is obtained. Addition of the chlorobutanol solution
while hot hastens the dispersion of the cellulose gum.
