Note: Long term stability and compatibility with N-P-K fertilizers can be improved by the addition of 0.1-5% sodium bisulfite as an oxidation inhibitor (Windgasen, 1975). Other antioxidants such as sulfites, dithionites, thiosulfates, and hydroxylamines should also prove effective. Alternatively, the addition of 0.1-2.0%, preferably 0.25% by wt., ferrous ion can be utilized (Hoyt, 1982).
For each formulation, a reaction vessel capable of thorough mixing should be utilized. Caution should be exercised as the reactions are exothermic in nature.
Add the liquid citric acid and water to the reaction vessel and begin stirring. Slowly distribute the micronutrient source into the vessel being careful to avoid unnecessary clumping and allow to stir for several minutes. Cautiously and slowly add the aqueous ammonia to the mixture until the desired pH is achieved and the solution clears.
Dilute to 100% wt/wt with water.
